Description

One of my new Characters, Abakku Mashia and her Harpstaff out of which comes the multielemental Spiritdragon Koreki when played. Why multi elemental? Because he changes elements after how the harp is being played =D;

I worked quite a while on this piece, about 1 week, 30 mins every day or so :/ I didnt know where this was going to at first either, neither the Characters design nor the pose and style of working on this piece was set wen i started it, i simply took one of the karton papers in our school that lay around and scribbled something as i was bored... Now i liked it so much that i had to finisch it XD;
Also the orginal is actually pure black and white pencil, but i colored it with PS because i liked something brownisch for it.

This piece had incredible many mistakes before i wanted to post this here, luckyly i posted it on a forum first and awaited the critiques. At first people said the eye lids were to thick, i hadnt finisched the dress below the dragon, it just ended there, on some parts there were shading issues and the harp playing hand looked too stiff (it sill does, but i dont care anymore). I changed everything the best I could, so i hope there wont be too much critique. Still Critique and suggestions are always welcome =D

I reall like this piece, i think its one of my best so far ): oh and its called "Orchestra" because im planning on drawing more of my characters with different instruments that could resemble them, in different drawing styles. Lets see how much i will get done or if i lose interest half way through :/

You find yourself standing in what appears to be a small garden or grove. The area is decorated beautifully with many different plants all adorned with beautiful blossomed flowers, each with their own unique coloration and shape. The warm breeze of the spring air blows about you as if it is a gentle blanket covering your body to comfort your that much more as you move through the forest. As the wind blows about the small grove, you lay your eyes upon a figure not far from you. A beautiful maiden stands silently within the groves of flowers and plants enjoying the warmth of the spring air. Her smile glows as brightly as the sun around you and her porcelain skin shares the same qualities of beauty as a perfectly drawn picture. Her body is adorned with elegant silken cloth and ordinate designs upon them, as if to suggest that she were part of royalty or perhaps a part of the local clergy sects. However, the most interesting part of the young maiden is the strange instrument in her hands. It appears to be a very ordinate designed harp with a dragon motif. Its many curves and shapes upon it have the appearance of that of a master craftsman and it emanates a strange mix of elegant exuberance and bestial grace by the dragon motif upon its frame. It is almost as the dragon designs have minds of their own as if they are staring in your direction. The woman's fingers gently pluck at the harp's strings filling the air with a music like none you have ever heard. You begin to feel as if you are being drawn toward her simply by the music in the air and slowly start to feel as if you are beginning to leave your body and float sullenly upon the elegant notes of the harpist. Orchestra - Abakkus Harp created by =andany, presents us with a truly outstanding mixture of imaginative character design as well as a excellent show of design.

I have to point out immediately, that there is a lot to take in on this piece, especially in the detail area. There is a lot of detailing placed into this piece from the various folds in the woman's clothing to the light shading effects on each and every single detail on the compositional elements of this piece, creating a very enticing composition that immediately grabs the attention of the viewer and pulls them into the piece. The styling of the piece also does a great job of encompassing the atmospheric elements of the piece and adds that much personality to the piece and overall quality. One almost feels a rather calming air of the piece, as if the viewer is also within the mysterious grove that the female subject resides in, slowly floating upon each and every daintily plucked note from the ordinate harp. These two parts give the piece that much more artistic personality as well as giving us a great view of what the artist's artistic imagination can conjure. Each of the elements have come together almost seamlessly and bring the viewer a greatly imaginative piece that doesn't even give their imaginations a chance to think about anything else.

As great as the piece looks there is a slight suggestion that I could give to increase its overall quality. You should work on the outlines of the compositional elements and refine them, giving the piece a much more professional look to it, rather than a more sketched appearance to it. Try to erase any of the smaller sketching marks on the edges of the piece and it should look much better. As a side note, if you're planning to color the piece later, might I suggest a more subtle coloring scheme to the overall piece. The harp looks like it would look great with a brushed metal or polished hardwood appearance, or even a combination of the two for effect. The woman could have a slightly bolder coloring appearance to her, as with the various plants and flowers about her adding a more abundant feeling of life to the piece. Try and build more on the shading effects as well and strengthen them in any places that appear a bit too light, especially since she's in a place that's either in direct sunlight or a place that slightly veils her with plants. Trust me, any of these changes can really take this piece from good to great.

As it stands, this is still quite an impressive piece in itself. The detailing is still beautiful and really brings out the skills of the artist as well as the overall personal touch to the piece. Its atmosphere is great in conjunction with the other compositional elements and brings out a lot more in the piece that one would notice at first glance. An excellent job and great piece, great work. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c…" width="20" height="20" alt=":clap:" title="Clap"/>
