Literature Text

To bind a spirit, one must know
To see and write the æthers flow.
To lure and croon them, ere they show,
And thou canst bind them with a vow.

The cleft of worlds might cause thee grieve,
Yet overcome the æther’s cleave
And pull a spirit from the weave.
But sooth their fury, lest they leave!

Nurse them, tend them, do them just.
Obey; Revere them, if you must!
Labor hard to gain their trust,
Lest they shun or turn to dust.

Once the spirits’ mistrust died,
It freely will come to thy side,
Its favor full in thee confide,
Will grant thy touch upon its hide,

Then guide thy quill, but show no fright!
Fear they sense when hand meets hide!
Thus take thy ink and will to write,
Rune by rune thy spell must cite.

Write thy charm upon each plume,
All skin or fur shall bear thy rune,
The spirits by thy bond be swoon,
Steady yet!
A slip and it may shroud in gloom!

Write thy runes upon all scales,
Runes of storm and that of gales,
That of thunder and of hails,
Guide the spirit with thy trails!

Write thy names into its blood,
Names of cinder and of flood,
Of the trees, of plants, of mud,
To heed thy calls and come in scud.

Bind thy spirit, forge the bond
To thy voice bound to respond
Call it from the world beyond
But beware!
Be of thy spirit ever fond!
Sometimes when i'm highly inspired by poetry, i write poems myself X3... Its rare, but it does happen. Sometimes they're actually good.
This is one that i'm quite proud of, though i know its probably not the best XD....

This poem was meant to be like one of those where someone gives you a manual on how to do some kind of obscure or occult ritual.
Its meant to be made for Summoners in Zäa, the world that The lullaby of Al'Sura also takes place in, and the æther is the same thing called ætherweb as mentioned in the graphic novels's 2nd chapter.
Its concieved not only as a web where all elemental energies flow, but also spirits reside, and people can forge a bond with these spirits to use them as channel for their magic or to borrow their magical abilities, but also as pet companions, as spirits usualy take the form or animals. Some people don't need to write runes all over them, though, and can just forge bonds with them naturally (by asking). However some people cant contact them that way, and for those this poem was supposed to be.
It is also always important to keep the spirit you bond with in a good mood, so this poem also focuses on always reminding the reader what to watch out for. Spirits are fragile and shy little beings X3

Feel free to give me critique on this. I'm not too good with poetry, as I can only conceive rhyming verse as poems and sometimes have problems fitting the right rhythm into the lines.

That's really pretty :)
The rhymes give it a nice structure, as well - normally I don't like rhyming poetry because it can seemed forced, making the meaning fit the words... but hey, it's working here ^^
Poems are probably the best way for memorising that sort of thing, actually. I have bits of your one running through my head now, and I've only read it once XD nice work
